Forum 5 & 12 Sept 2002

These are brief notes on views expressed by parents, pupils and staff at the Mini Forums in Tayport on 5th September 2002 and St Andrews on 12th September 2002.

Tayport:

Forceful presence of school personnel, highlighting problems of accommodation and travel between buildings
Identity with Madras strongly emphasised by the senior Tayport pupil present
No detrimental effects on curriculum apart from inefficiently of resourcing and equipping two sites and loss of time through travel between buildings
Pre school parents present as they represent a stakeholder group that will have children in secondary school in 10 years time
What happens in short term - repairs etc
Board and PTA will not stop campaigning
Economic plan needs to include demographic trends
Situation regarding Dundee (the four city strategic plan) could make an impact
New houses expansion - population growing - serious lack of community facilities in bridgehead area owing to centralisation of school in St Andrews

St Andrews:

Buses effect on energy and calmness of pupils having a long uncomfortable daily journey to school and home
Effect on pupils such as possible impact on attainment by those who spend longest travelling daily.
Effect of finances and the environment need to be assessed as part of the overall provision
Demographics:
Future numbers/RAF /more housing developments/Leuchars civilian airfield expansion
Clarity of data
Political side - how much of an influence as a community do we have?
Sustainability is topical - how sustainable is the present secondary provision in the Madras catchment and East Fife generally?
Equal opportunities/safety inspections/action
For and against - The Chairman closed the meeting by saying that the status quo was not an option the Board would consider.
